Honor Tony and Team Up With ARF
ARF salutes Tony La Russa and the St. Louis Cardinals, 2011 World Series Champions! As with baseball, saving the lives of helpless animals takes dedication, teamwork and perseverance to reach the goal — where everyone wins!
Tony and his wife Elaine always dreamed big, when they started ARF 21 years ago after a stray cat ran onto the baseball field during a nationally televised game. The dream became even more a reality when ARF moved into our Walnut Creek campus and spay/neuter clinic eight years ago. Since then more than 23,000 abandoned dogs and cats have been rescued from public shelters where they would have perished, and instead found new loving homes. ARF’s Clinic has performed more than 19,000 spay and neuter surgeries, helping reduce the pet overpopulation problem right at its source.
After 16 seasons and the thrilling World Series win this week, with head held high, Tony announced his retirement as Manager of the Cardinals, ranking third in baseball history in managerial victories. As Tony looks forward to new opportunities, he and Elaine will continue their dedicated work until there are no more homeless pets — but they know they can’t do it without thoughtful, committed citizens.
Each of us has the power to change the life of a dog, cat, or person in need — and to dream. ARF relies solely upon donations from people like you — and our plans and dreams are limited only by dollars. We make every dollar count with 91 cents going directly to our life-saving programs. We need your commitment to ensure the dogs and cats have a chance to find their own home plate.
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.
