You can also prepare a simple pet emergency kit in advance; here are some items to include in your kit:

• A filled water jug and spare bowl.
• Food supplies, bowl and manual can opener if canned food is included.
• A current photo of your pet in case it gets lost.
• A spare leash or harness.
• Copy of latest vaccination and health information.
• Pets license number and/or microchip number.
• Any medications the pet requires.
• Plastic bags for cleanup after dogs.
• A pet carrier or crate.
• A first aid kit. Ask your vet for tips on what to include.
