Grover Gets His Groove Back

When Grover first made his way to ARF, it was immediately obvious that he was a total sweetheart. He paced around his condo, rubbing up against the door and happily meowing at everyone who walked past. And while he loved being pet and held, Grover yelped in pain when his lower abdomen was touched. Further inspection made it clear he had severe bruising around the site of his recent neuter surgery (which was performed at another shelter).

Due to this extensive bruising, ARF’s veterinary clinic ran bloodwork on Grover to determine underlying issues. It turned out, Grover was facing a two-pronged assault on his body. He was anemic, with a deficiency in red blood cells, and had an uncommon blood-borne pathogen called Mycoplasma haemominitum, which may be spread via bite wounds, ticks, or fleas. Dusty Gives Thanks to the ARF Pet Safety Net

A few months ago, Dusty’s guardian noticed his beloved pet was acting strange: urinating in the house, not eating his dinner, and moping around lethargically. The news from the vet was dire — Dusty had developed bladder stones and would need surgery to remove them. Unfortunately the price tag on a surgery like this was well beyond his guardian’s means. It seemed like the only option would be to surrender Dusty to a shelter where he could get the care he needed. Thankfully, the ARF Pet Safety Net was able to step in. Dusty received his surgery, and is now free of bladder stones, fully recovered, and happily living life in the only home he’s ever known.

Sometimes heartbreaking circumstances force a family to say goodbye to their beloved pet. The ARF Pet Safety Net assists qualifying families who need extra help — keeping pets out of shelters.
