Saving Luau From Harm's Way

When disaster strikes, ARF is ready. As hundreds of wildfires ravaged the California landscape, we received an SOS call from one of our partner shelters in Sonoma County. Our team leapt into action, picking up dogs and cats and clearing space in their facility to make room for pets displaced by the LNU Lightning Complex Fire. One of the cats we returned with was Luau, a terrified tabby with major damage to his right eye.

Our veterinary clinic got to work assessing him, and within three days, Luau was on the operating table for an eye enucleation. The damage was too extensive and the eye had to be removed entirely. Read more...

Disaster Preparedness and Your Pet

If the past few years have taught us anything, it’s that everyone needs a plan for disaster situations. Many families have had to evacuate their homes with no notice during emergencies.

ARF recommends keeping a pet go-bag in your home or vehicle so you can be ready to leave if the time comes. Be sure to include food, medicine, a leash and harness, your pet’s information (rabies certificate, vet’s contact information, etc.), medical supplies, and even a special toy or two! By planning ahead, you can save precious time and ensure your animals have everything they need.

Visit the ARF online resource library for more pet tips.

ARF's Pets and Vets National Headquarters

In honor of National Service Dog Month, we'd like to give you an update on the next step for ARF's Pets and Vets program. In Spring 2019, we broke ground on an exciting, new project: the national headquarters for Pets and Vets. Since then, foundations were laid, walls went up, paint is being applied, and construction is nearing its final stage.

With campaign gifts made by more than 20,000 donors, this milestone step in ARF's history wouldn't have been possible without you. Thank you to everyone who supports us in Saving Both Ends of the Leash®.
