Cher & Dionne: Doggy Divas Heal Together
062920DionneCher.jpg

At only six months old, Dionne and Cher should have been growing, learning, and enjoying puppyhood. Their days should have been filled with pleasant walks around the block, toys stuffed with treats, and naps in the warm, summer sun. Unfortunately, that's not the hand these young dogs were dealt.

Due to neglect as part of an animal hoarding situation, Dionne and Cher entered ARF's facility in rough shape. The duo had lost almost all of their fur due to an advanced Demodex infestation and a secondary skin infection. Both suffered from anemia and heart murmurs. And to top it all off, Cher was discovered to have serious knee issues; a grade 4 patellar luxation to be specific. This means her kneecaps are permanently displaced inward.

Thankfully, these two doggy divas are in good hands at ARF. Read more...

Do you have the cutest dog or cat around? Here's your chance to prove it! We’re officially launching our Sit, Stay, Smile Photo Contest: ARF’s first online photo contest fundraiser! We're open for submissions and voting has begun on our photo contest website, with the final votes being tallied on September 1.

Plus, the six cats and six dogs with the most votes will be featured in a celebratory 2021 pet calendar*! Now that's something worth wagging your tail about.

*photo submissions must meet ARF's guidelines to be featured in calendar.

4th of July Pet Safety
4th of July

While the Independence Day is typically a fun day for people, it can be a scary and dangerous time for our four-legged companions. More pets are reported lost on the Fourth of July than any other day of the year. Be prepared by making sure your pet's microchip and ID tag contain up-to-date information.

Fireworks are a particularly frightening experience for animals. Keep them secure inside in a quiet environment. Additionally, consider playing quiet music to distract them from the booming noise, and, for more anxious dogs, a compression shirt could be helpful in keeping them calm and happy.
