Moey the Magnificent
Despite our nation’s shutdown due to the COVID-19 outbreak, ARF’s life-saving efforts continue within the shelter in place order. Deemed an essential business, our team has safely made weekly runs to our partner shelters using social distancing and safety protocols. ARF has rescued dogs and cats suffering from complicated or expensive medical cases, which overcrowded, public shelters are having trouble handling during the current pandemic. One of those dogs is Moey, a 2-year-old pit bull mix with a thousand-watt smile. She loves snuggling up on laps, slobbering up tasty treats, wagging her tail so hard it throws her off balance, and rolling around on her back in a nice patch of grass. ARF Prepares for Kittens and Puppies
While schools, sports, and many jobs are on hiatus, the annual springtime boom of young animals flooding shelters stops for nothing. These are some of the most vulnerable lives that enter our doors. They require constant care and significant resources to ensure they grow to be healthy and well-socialized pets.
In preparation, ARF is collecting items for our virtual Puppy and Kitten Shower to welcome this spring’s baby animals into the world! Our talented foster volunteers are ready, but they need everything from puppy potty pads to milk replacement powder. View our Amazon wish list to see what we need most and make a gift for these adorable babies!

FoodShare Helps During Pandemic
Local shelter-in-place orders have left many unable to leave their homes to restock on the necessities. From seniors to people with disabilities, many of our most vulnerable community members are being hit hardest. Thankfully, ARF's FoodShare program is still able to deliver dog and cat food through a no-contact exchange to crisis centers in Contra Costa County.
By preventing low-income and at-risk families from choosing between feeding themselves and feeding their pets, ARF is able to help keep animals out of shelters and at home where they belong. Learn more or donate online.
