Jewel Shines Through Adversity
4.23jewel.jpg

When Jewel first arrived, she was something of an enigma. She loved being around people, couldn't get enough wand toy playtime, and enjoyed gentle petting around her tail. But any time a hand wandered close to her shoulders, she'd shy away. Other than this quirk, Jewel seemed happy and healthy. It wasn't until ARF's veterinary clinic ordered a set of x-rays that the root of the issue came to light. Jewel had a 4.5mm BB lodged between her shoulderblades.
CGC: The Ultimate Doggy Manners Test
5.29CGC.jpg

Do you consider your dog to be a very good girl or boy? Now is your chance to prove it! The AKC Canine Good Citizen Test is a ten-step evaluation recognizing pets with impeccable manners. But that's not to say the CGC is just for bragging rights. It's often the preliminary step for therapy dogs and service dogs, as a starting point for more advanced training. A CGC certificate can sometimes even help in tricky landlord situations!
Are you ready to take the Canine Good Citizen Test? You can sign up for a stand-alone CGC Test right here at ARF, or take our 6-week prep class, which ends with a proctored test.
Keep Cool in the Summer Heat
6.27Hot.jpg

Summer is almost upon us and it's bringing the heat! Here are some tips for staying safe during the next few months.
• When taking your pet for a walk, use the palm of your hand to get a read on the ground's temperature. Hot for hands is often too hot for paws.
• Always carry water with you to keep your pet hydrated.
If you and your pet exercise outdoors, take advantage of cooler dawn and dusk temperatures.
• And it goes without saying that you should never leave your pet unattended in a hot car - even for a quick errand.

Be aware of your surroundings and make sure summer is as safe as it is fun!
