Last month, Northern California faced the most devastating and destructive wildfire in the state's history. The blaze also put thousands of animals' lives at risk. ARF's Disaster Relief team responded with a multi-faceted approach assisting impacted communities, including treating cats badly burned in the fire.

Tips for the Road - Traveling with Your Pet

• Take frequent breaks! Most rest stops offer places for pet exercise. Several pet apps also identify pet-friendly stops.

• The backseat is safest for pets. Cats and small dogs are best off in carriers. Larger dogs benefit from a seatbelt harness.

• If traveling across state lines, be prepared to provide a health certificate from your veterinarian.

• Make sure your pet's microchip and tag information is up-to-date – just in case!

• Finally, evaluate whether your pet should hit the road based on their comfort, not how much you'll miss them. In some cases, it's best if they sit a trip out with a trusted pet-sitter and hear all about it when you return.
