A Service Dog Salute
6.27PetsVets.jpg

ARF is proud to team up with Purina Dog Chow this summer to salute our country’s service members and their canine companions. From Independence Day to Veterans Day, a portion of the proceeds from sales of specially marked bags of Dog Chow Complete Adult with Chicken will be donated to ARF's Pets and Vets program, providing even more opportunities to save both ends of the leash.

Through ARF's Pets and Vets, combat veterans get a new “battle buddy” to have their back and help with service-related issues such as PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, anxiety, and more. Shelter dogs are given a second chance after facing an uncertain future at public shelters. As one of our Pets and Vets veterans put it, “My dog is the best medication that’s ever been prescribed.”
Wine & Whiskers: A Fun Evening of Food, Wine, and Furry Friends

Save the Date! You’re invited to join ARF on September 8 for a spectacular evening of local wine and beer, great food, live music, and some of the cutest animals you’ll ever see. Mingle with fellow animal-lovers right here at ARF's national headquarters in Walnut Creek, CA, and prepare yourself for appearances from adorable adoptable animals and furry members of ARF’s famous Pet Hug Pack®. Proceeds from Wine & Whiskers support ARF’s life-saving programs, including adoption/rescue efforts, affordable spay/neuter services, humane education, and more.

This event WILL sell out! Don’t miss your chance to attend the fall’s most exciting shindig! For more information on tickets or sponsorship opportunities, please visit arflife.org.
Keep Your Cool in the Summer Heat
6.27Hot.jpg

Temperatures are soaring and ARF wants to make sure you’re prepared!
• When taking your dog (or your cat!) for a walk, be mindful of how hot the ground can get. Feel the surface with the palm of your hand to get a good read on the temperature.
• If you like to exercise outdoors with your pet, dawn and dusk are great opportunities to take advantage of relatively cool temperatures.
• Carry water with you so your pet can stay hydrated on-the-go. Feel free to use it to keep yourself cool too!
• And, obviously, never leave your pet unattended in a hot car. Animal deaths due to heat stroke in enclosed cars is tragic and far too common during warm months.
Summer can be an exciting time of outdoor action, by being aware of your surroundings you can make sure it’s as safe as it is fun. For more pet tips visit ARF’s Online Resource Library.
